Our Story

The Shed That Bloomed

Flower Shed began with a single mum, her daughter, and an old iron shed on a quiet piece of land in Thornlands. What started with leaking roofs, long days and a lot of repair work has grown into a real family run florist serving Redlands, Brisbane and nearby suburbs.

Where It Started

It started with an old shed.

On a quiet, open piece of land in Thornlands stood an old iron shed. Rusted, leaking and almost forgotten, it had no flowers inside. Just a tired roof, overgrown grass and a space most people would have walked away from.

More than 18 years ago, a single mum arrived here with her daughter, years of floristry experience, and the belief that something beautiful could still grow from very little.

That was the beginning of Flower Shed.

What started as a shed nobody wanted became a place full of flowers, care and community.

Flower Shed was not built overnight. It was repaired, painted, cooled, filled, expanded and loved into life.

Built by Hand

Nothing about Flower Shed was built overnight.

The first few years were less about grand plans and more about fixing what was right in front of us.

When the roof leaked

We repaired it by hand and kept going.

When water came through

We swept it out, painted the floor and made the space workable again.

When summer heat filled the shed

We installed fans so the flowers, and the people, could breathe.

When flowers needed better care

We built a cool room beside the shed to protect the blooms.

As the business grew

That cool room expanded into three connected cool rooms.

As customers came in

The shed slowly became a place where people could walk in, choose flowers and feel welcome.

Flowers & Local Care

Over time, the shed began to bloom.

As Flower Shed grew, so did our relationship with local growers and trusted flower suppliers. We learnt what lasted, what was in season, and how to choose flowers that could handle Queensland heat while still arriving fresh and beautiful.

Native flowers, eucalyptus, seasonal blooms and everyday bouquets became part of our language. Not because they were trends, but because they belonged here.

Flower Shed was never built to be a faceless flower network. It was built as a real local florist — one that knows its flowers, its customers and its delivery areas.

The Family Behind the Flowers

Today, Flower Shed is held together by family.

What began with a mother and daughter is now run by three women: a mother, a daughter and an aunty — each bringing experience, care and a deep love for flowers.

Our team also includes the characters customers remember. Kolo, our much-loved Maltese and unofficial greeter, has been known to welcome customers from the moment they park their car, guide them into the shop, and see them out after they choose their flowers.

Yuanbao, our German Shepherd, was once part of the Flower Shed family too — until his cheeky personality earned him early retirement back home.

These little details are part of who we are. Flower Shed is loved because it is real.

More Than a Flower Shop

A place for flowers, people and second chances.

Over the years, Flower Shed has grown into more than a florist. We are proud to be involved in government-supported work initiatives, creating opportunities for people with disability to gain meaningful work experience in a real local business.

To us, flowers have always been about care. Care for the person receiving them, care for the person making them, and care for the community around us.
